It’s unfortunate. I really loved this mosque. It was close to home. It had comfortable carpets. Plentiful supply of Qurans. Even ceiling fans.
But the imam.
I’m fed up.
It’s been a long time coming. As if his non-inspirational sermons weren’t enough, I had to be subject to a 20 minute rant this Friday on how all the Arabian music/sex channels are a plot by the Jews to destroy the Islamic ummah.
So that was the straw that broke this camel’s back.
Next Friday I’m looking for a new mosque, which was not something I was looking forward to because now I have to wake up earlier.
Also, come Sunday, I’m calling the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs to file a complaint.
the truth hurts
what truth?
I agree with flower .
about what?
Nas, good on ya. Both in switching to find something more challenging/inspiring and reporting the guy.
Hi naseem,
Again I must commend you. I wish every Jordanian was as proactive!
This utter stupidity, for the lack of more diplomatic language, within our religion (and its so called Imams) has gone too far in too many places.
Salam,
good luck finding another mosuq,e and good luck with the complaint 🙂
Try to look for “Abu Mustafa”, who recently was the friday imam in the mosque of ….
can’t remember the name, but here it is:
http://wikimapia.org/#y=31965796&x=35841804&z=18&l=0&m=a&v=2
Abu Mustafa is an amusing khateeb – strong, focuses on morality and values, and his Arabic is enjoyable.
Let me know how you find him.
Oh, my bad… it’s Abu Musa, not Mustafa.
And it’s really funny during Khutba when he starts to recall a conversation with his wife
“Ommo Musa Taqolo li, ya Abu Musa, matha anta fa3ilun bihatha”
“Aqolo laha, ya Omma musa, tawwili balaki”
he knows how to deliver s fun and strong khutba
ah… I miss jordan.
by the way, if you can, try to audit a class, or attend lectures, by Ahmad Nofel – the professor at U of Jordan, who is also prohibited from giving juma sermons. He’s real good – takes the whole experience to a new intellectual level.
Another amazing professor/speaker is Amjad Qoursheh, also at the U of Jordan. He’s very popular there – a mini Amr Khaled. This guy ranked 10th in Tawjihi (Adabi), and yet chose to study Shari’ah. His style is intellectual-emotional type of lectures.
good luck,
Thanks for the tips muhammad
I want to hear flower’s and nessy’s reply about their comments.. what truth hurts?
If it’s the truth that Jews are destroying the Muslim nation, then I guess I’ve seen everything in this world. 🙂
You will change Mosques more often, it’s a universal thing now.
I want to hear flower’s and nessy’s reply about their comments.. what truth hurts?

not far from the truth actually ,. they are . and we are copying their programs, some very silly ones, sleazy music channels , any rubbish to keep the youngsters and the people too busy to question so many fundamentals about their rights, and what s happening to their nations . But i guess you live in Jordan and Jordanian king is quite friendly with the US and the zionists whom he will visit next month , in the knessett istself and probably sell whatever is left of palestinians rights
im a muslim and not a fanatic at all , in fact i dont even cover up (but will one day ) but seeing how our dictators are putting israel agenda before OUR own interests is appalling starting with the kings and Sultans and emirs . if the kIngs beleived in democracy they would ask their people if they really want peace with israel right now or is it too late , and they ll find the people are not ready , the kings just want to cosy up to the US that s why .
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/850702.html
sorry i meant too early to have relations , not too late . that was a mistake .
Nessy: thanks for the clarification, although you’re “Jews are destroying us” with TV might have been a bit more valid had it not been followed with “And the king is selling Palestine”. But i’m guessing this is not so much a contradiction of terms as much as it is a joint-conspiracy where our king works with Israel to destroy Palestine; the former through various speeches and the latter through television programming.
who knew that the woes of palestine boiled down to those two things?
and i certainly wasn’t aware that our king had a mandate from the palestinian people, who as far as i can remember still govern themselves and are responsible for their own destiny, to sell their rights.
gee…they must really love him
Quote : as far as i can remember still govern themselves and are responsible for their own destiny,

I wish .they are still under occupation and they cant move from one checkpoint to another without the approval of a 19 years old from moscow or addis ababa .
I hope you read the link i suggested from haaretz, that would explain what i said. the Kingdom is deying that story being right in the israeli media , so i expect the gov to demand apologies to Haaretz if their story is real . let see if they have the courage to threaten haaretz .
the king should not promise too much to the israelis he should let the palestinians solve their own issue. the same dictators have let the palestinian issue deteriorate while they have stronger relations with the zionists who lunch and dine in Amman and Cairo and Nouakshott.
i ll post it again in arabic
http://www.alquds.co.uk/TodayPages/qds01.pdf
Nessy: yes the government is denying the story and this wouldn’t be the first time the Israeli media, especially Haaretz has made things up when it comes to Jordan. In fact the only time I ever remembering them retracting a false story and admitting to it is when they said that Jordanian security evacuated Israeli tourists from the hotels before the Amman bombings. Unfortunately, AlJazeera which jumped the gun and broadcasted the story moments later, didn’t have the honesty, or decency, to follow the lead of the original source and do the same.
but i’m guessing you’re the type who would probably believe haaretz despite its track record for jordan.
but i digress.
this is a strange statement. i don’t understand what promises you expect the king to make when he plays no role in palestine other than being a regional mediator between the parties. regardless of the occupation the palestinian government is still legitimate and through its people it still controls its destiny, including what can be promised and what can’t. this is a destiny that is not controlled by anyone else but them.
and speaking of, the palestinians lunch and dine in Amman almost every other week.
Hi,
You know, there many people all over the Middle East including Israel that are fed up with people in power telling them what to think and feel for others. Some are taking deliberate and proactive action to overcome prejudice and hateful messages by simply connecting with like-minded people and establishing personal relationships across political and ethnic borders. It feels great and empowering. IMO, people who promote hate are the real enemies and refusing to accept such messages is an act of resistant. The Internet enables us as individuals to make our own pockets of peace. Shouldn’t we seize the opportunity?
Your poem on non-inspirational sermons is very inspiring.
🙂
Cheers,
Yael
Nessy,
you’re accusing the Zionist media or the Jewish media or whichever one you were ranting about and you still followed it by, and I quote,
“and we are copying their programs, some very silly ones,
sleazy music channels , any rubbish to keep the youngsters
and the people too busy to question so many fundamentals
about their rights, and what s happening to their nations .”
WE ARE COPYING IT
WE ARE COPYING IT
WE ARE COPYING IT
WE ARE COPYING IT
Now you’re blaming them for destroying our culture by copying theirs, that’s us copying it not them imposing it on us. Now if that’s not contradictory I don’t know what is.
Believe me, had it been not for the “copied” shows, I would never open any arabic channel. Nothing against authentic Arabic shows, but I don’t picture myself watching maraya or some other cheesy Egyptian soap opera for 4 or 5 hours a day. Don’t get me wrong, I still watch some but I guess the Arabic media needs a lesson or two about the entertainment side of media.
And a last thought, I just can’t decide who we copied Marwa, Dana, Meryam Fares, Haifa Wahbi and the gang from. So if you have any suggestions please let me know. 🙂
NAS: Have you tried praying at Kaluti? the mosque in khalda/rabiyah, that area. They have a really nice khutbah mostly on the seerah, although the Shaykh who was the khatib for a long time was banned 2 weeks ago (no comment). The new khatib is very good though.
Try it.
zahra: thats a good suggestion. i’ve been there before once before. although the traffic there is terrible 🙂
In response to Hanna’s post:
One of the things that I appreciate about American culture, not the that which is produced and distributed by mainstream corporate media, is that there is a real interest and encouragement for innovation and invention on the grassroots level. It’s not held down by thousand-years histories. That’s true across all cultural and scientific production.
One thing to remember is that a lot of recent TV programming, especially reality TV actually started in Britain and Europe. History shows that everyone is copying from everyone all the time. But no one copies exactly the same so that’s were variety comes in.
Look, even monotheism was ‘copied’ (I’d prefer the word ‘adapted’) by different people and reinvented to support their worldviews and needs. It’s still happens all the time. There are many flavors of Islamic, Jewish and Christian religious practices.
This book really helped me sort things out:
A History of God: The 4,000-Year Quest of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, by Karen Armstrong.
So Nessy: Adapt, copy, invent, reinvent, make it your own, make better, much better, and share it.
cheers,
yael
Nas!! Traffic?!?! it’s a friday morning (well midday actually)!! that’s the quietest Amman’s roads get. and theres a big carpark to the south side of the mosque, right next to it! it aint that hard…:)
anyway, keep us posted as to where your mosque-search leads you…now that’ll be interesting!
Nas,
Are you sick of a man who says in his own way that zionists control the media to push the zionist agenda?
Sari: there’s a big difference between saying zionists control the media to push a zionist agenda and that jews are conspiring to destroy the Islamic ummah by corrupting its youth with satellite tv stations that air arab music videos all day long.
…and i think you know that
