We peel back the winterberry sky
With our brown eyes
One gray cloud at a time
We
We wear checkered scarves
Fashioned red and white
One small square at a time
Around the circles of Amman
We
We weave through heavy traffic
With furrowed brows and overcoats
Cross one bridge, under one tunnel at a time
We
We pass fender benders
Emotional wrecks
With dazed minds that keep spinning in time
Around the circles of Amman
For We
We are in your street signs
We are in your skylines
We are in your daydreams
We
We are in your street lights
We are in your dark nights
We fall asleep to you
We stay awake with you
We write poems of you
We belong to you
Every piece of you
You
We
We unfold all that’s folded
Peel back your winterberry sky
One jealous layer at a time
Just one last time
We
We lay buried in the colours of your veneer
In the grayness of a new year
Shaping messages in the cold air
With the movement of our blue lips
Send them off on ghost ships
To the rhythm of their own rhyme
On a single straight line
Around the circles of Amman

LOL
Imagine that, a poem about my absolute favorite topic (as evidence see how much proportional space I’ve dedicated in my blog to it). Nicely done, Elmo. Thanks for sharing!

I like it so much!! liked the picture as well… Amman itself feels like a BIG FAT circle… where you keep going around the same place meeting the same people
