This Long Weekend Sucks!

So I was biking yesterday and out of no where a spasm shot through my lower back and I was down for the day. I spent most of it on my couch, on my back, reading. I couldn’t get up to do anything and it’s times like these you wish for family because of course living alone means there’s a chance you’ll try getting up, crashing to the floor, knocking yourself unconscious and your body being discovered by the landlord a few weeks later when you haven’t paid your rent and an odd smell begins to ooze out from beneath the door frame. I survived all day on the closest items possible: Diet Coke and Ritz crackers, which of course kept me up all night.

Today is a bit better but I think it may be because I’ve just been asleep in the same restful position for 7 hours so it feels like the numbness of sleep is wearing off and I’m on the verge of another spasm. This is supposed to be a ‘long weekend’ (Monday is Victoria Day in Canada which is basically a day where everyone gets to stay home and celebrate Queen Victoria’s birthday, who would be turning 187 years old if she were alive today) The first 3 days off since I don’t know when. I had so much planned that didn’t involve a couch. I’m remembering a Seinfeld episode where George is screaming “This was supposed to be the summer of George!”

Anyways I managed to finish “Live of the Saints” by Nino Ricci. He wrote this back in 1990 and even got his English Literature degree from my university. It’s a critically acclaimed novel, the first part of a trilogy that spans over 20 years of one character’s life starting in 1960 Italy. I’m too lazy to give a full review of it but suffice to say I recommend it. It was also a TV mini series in Canada about 2 years back, starring Sophia Loren.

Next on the list is Anne Tyler’s “Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant”. This should be interesting.

This is going to be a really long weekend.

Sigh. Back to my couch.

  • You’re so lucky! (not for breaking your back ๐Ÿ˜› ( oopps, sorry that was very insensitive on my part :D.. I hope you feel better soon…) but for the long weekend…)

‘Dinner at the homesick restaurant’ sounds … nostalgic!

    Again, salamtak!

  • Relax.. the weather is crappy… windy and rainy…. what are you gonna do?????? take a shampoo bottle and a round hair brush outside???? chill bro!

  • bnsh, “what are you gonna do, take a shampoo bottle and a round hair brush outside” lol dude, what do you think it is that I do when I’m not home?! ๐Ÿ˜€

  • NAS. take three Advil and get out of the damn house. and the back thing is from lack of exercise and bad back genes. still, family would have been nice to have around!!!! imagine dad telling u that you need to walk it off and be a man and boiling up strange concoctions for you to drink (while ur in such pain that u could bite someone to keep from screaming) and mom taking the opportunity of having a captive audience to tell u what exactly is wrong with ur life and how u could improve to meet her standard if u were just willing to try a bit harder…and why dont u get a job instead of working on the computer all day? (while ur in such pain that u could bite someone to keep from screaming) or there could be me…lets order a pizza and i’ll make cheese cake and we’ll watch back to back (no pun intended) episodes of the Family Guy…and we’ll pretend we’re not home if the rest of the family decides to drop by.
    Feel better?

  • รƒโ„ขร‚ยSalamat Nas, I really feel bad for you because I have been there once and I know what you mean!

    Get well soon!

  • Fad, lool yeah i guess when I meant family I was ruling out the parents! that cheese cake would be nice right about now. In the meantime I’ve invented a device using a hockey stick, shoe laces and my bicycle (upside down), that will allow me to open the fridge door without getting up. I’m still working on the part that allows me to actually get stuff out of the fridge. Anyways, I tried laying on the floor but it hurt too much to get up, so I spent 2 hours attempting yoga but I got stuck in the lotus position for the majority of that time. Long story short I’m hoped up on Tylenol3’s and I’m feeling a lot better, a little high, but better. To the gym tomorrow! ๐Ÿ˜€

Khalidah, Allah ysalmek, thanks, inshallah I will. ๐Ÿ™‚
